Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Ocean Safari?+
A half-day pelagic expedition into the open Sea of Cortez from San José del Cabo, designed to find and snorkel with marine megafauna in their natural habitat. Unlike standard boat tours that stay close to shore, Ocean Safari heads offshore where dolphins, mobula rays, sharks, and seasonal orcas hunt and feed. It's the most complete wildlife encounter we offer year-round.
What wildlife will I see on the Ocean Safari?+
Common sightings include dolphins (bottlenose, spinner, and common), mobula rays, mako and silky sharks, sea turtles, and seabirds like frigate birds and boobies. Seasonal species depending on the month: humpback whales (December to April), orcas (sporadic year-round), whale sharks (rare), and pilot whales. Every expedition is different because the ocean is different. We chase what's active that day.
Is the Ocean Safari safe for first-time snorkelers?+
Yes. You don't need previous snorkeling experience, just comfort in open water. We provide masks, fins, and wetsuits. Our biologist guides give a full safety briefing before every water entry, and the team stays in the water with you. We don't take guests under 8 years old on the Ocean Safari because it's an open ocean expedition with deep water entries.
How long is the Ocean Safari and what's the schedule?+
Half-day expedition, roughly 4 to 5 hours total. Departures from Puerto Los Cabos Marina in San José del Cabo, typically around 8 AM to catch the calmest morning water. We're back at the marina by early afternoon. Light snacks, water, and fruit are included. Guests usually have lunch in town afterward.
What's the difference between the Ocean Safari and Shark Safari?+
Ocean Safari is broader: we go where the wildlife is and you can encounter dolphins, rays, sharks, and turtles in one expedition. Shark Safari is targeted: we head specifically to the open ocean zones where mako, blue, and silky sharks hunt, and we use a chum line to attract them. If you want a wildlife sampler, choose Ocean Safari. If you want sharks specifically, choose Shark Safari.
How many guests are on the boat?+
Maximum 8 guests per Ocean Safari. Smaller groups mean faster water entries, more individual guide attention, and less impact on the wildlife. We also offer fully private bookings for families and small groups who want exclusive use of the boat.
What's included in the price?+
Snorkel equipment (mask, fins, wetsuit), biologist guide, all marina and park fees, water, light snacks, fruit, and underwater photography from our team. Not included: hotel transfers (we coordinate separately), gratuities, and personal travel insurance.
Can I book a private Ocean Safari?+
Yes. Private bookings are available for the entire boat (up to 8 guests). Ideal for families, couples, photographers, or anyone who wants flexibility on departure time and route. Contact us via WhatsApp at +52 624 241 1226 for private rates and availability.
